Santa Maria Area Transit operates local bus service, and intercity and airport shuttle services connect to regional airports, including Santa Maria Public Airport. Santa Maria's parks system covers more than 225 acres, led by Los Flores Ranch Park, a large natural area offering hiking, horseback riding, and wildlife viewing on the city's edge. Waller Park is a long-standing favorite with ball fields, picnic areas, and a lake, while Preisker, Fletcher, and Rotary Centennial parks serve individual neighborhoods. The Santa Maria Valley Multi-Purpose Trail provides a growing off-street corridor for walking and cycling. The Pacific beaches of the Central Coast, the Santa Ynez wine country, and Vandenberg's coastal setting are all within a short drive.
